Join us for a two-part workshop where you'll learn to transform plain fabric into stunning works of art using natural pigments derived from food waste. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to connect with your creative self, learn sustainable art practices, and enjoy the beauty of slow makes.
Day 1 (2.5 hrs): Natural Dyeing & Painting
• Learn to extract natural dyes from tannin-rich sources such as henna, black tea, pomegranate, and onion skins.
• Understand the science behind natural dyeing and how to achieve different shades and tones.
• Prepare "mud paste" for painting.
• Create stunning mudcloth-inspired patterns on your hand-dyed fabric.
Day 2 (1.5 hrs): Finishing Steps
• Remove painted mud paste
• Neutralise your painted fabric
• Understand steps to take for colourfast fabric
What you'll experience:
• Natural dyeing techniques using food waste
• Formulating mud paste for painting
• Surface pattern design
• Sustainable and eco-friendly art practices
What you'll take home:
• Your own hand-dyed, hand-painted and mudcloth-inspired tea towels (55x55cm)
